Minutes decide everything. When the heart stops, brain damage starts within minutes. To have a real chance of survival, someone needs to start CPR and deliver a shock from a defibrillator within about 6 minutes. An ambulance often takes longer — that gap is the difference between life and death.

An AED nearby changes the odds. A defibrillator can shock the heart back into rhythm. It’s simple to use — the device talks you through it — and it can more than double the chance of survival. But most communities don’t have one nearby. With Community AED, you can raise funds together to buy a defibrillator for your community, so help is there when it’s needed most.

What is a defibrillator

AED stands for automated external defibrillator — a portable device used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). It delivers an electrical shock to help reset the heart’s rhythm. Think of it as a jump-start for the heart.

How does the defibrillator work

Press the power button and the device’s voice instructions guide you through every step. Anyone can operate an AED, including someone with no training — though it helps to familiarize yourself in advance.

What does the package include?

An AED, an unlocked outdoor cabinet, and a 4-year support package. The cabinet lets the AED hang outside on a wall or fence, accessible 24 hours a day.

How does a Community AED campaign work?

You create a fundraising campaign, your neighbors donate through your campaign page, and once your goal is reached, you receive your package. You can stop your campaign anytime, free of charge.

Who can start a campaign?

Anyone 18 or older. Organizations, businesses, and community groups can start campaigns too.

How do I support a campaign?

Search for a campaign by address or neighborhood and donate directly on the campaign page. If a campaign can’t reach its goal in time, all donations are refunded.

Can I purchase directly without running a campaign?

Yes — businesses and individuals can buy the package outright. See our Buy Direct page for details.

How much time do I have to raise funds?

Campaigns start with a 180-day target, which can be extended on request — no pressure.

Can I raise more than the target amount?

No — Community AED campaigns are specifically for funding the AED package, so you can’t raise extra on top. Any excess supports another community’s campaign.

How do I stop my campaign?

Just email or call us — your campaign will be stopped immediately and all donations canceled.

What happens if the campaign doesn't reach the goal?

If the campaign has not reached the goal by the deadline provided, and it is not extended, we will cancel all the preauthorized payments and no-one will be charged anything. There is no risk to contribute in that either device will be purchased or you won't be charged at all.

Are there additional costs after installation?

None. Once your package is installed and your goal is reached, there are no further costs for the length of your support package — that’s what sets Community AED apart.

How do I install the AED and cabinet?

Mount it somewhere easy to reach and accessible 24/7. Full instructions are included in your welcome package. You’ll need an electrician or qualified installer to wire the cabinet’s heater/light to power.

What happens if the AED is stolen or vandalized?

A free replacement is provided upon submission of a valid police report.

What should I do if the AED has been used?

Email us with the device’s serial number and your campaign name, and we’ll arrange replacement pads right away.

What happens after my support package expires?

We’ll reach out well ahead of time with a renewal offer for continued coverage.
